Little Eats

Hi there.

Settled nicely into 2010 by now?

Well, we had a very cold start to the year since I took my little one to Germany due to my mum being sick.

Man, it was cold!

-10 when we arrived and we just made it out of there before the next cold-spell with minus 14 and flights being cancelled due to ice on the runway.

As it was, we watched some poor soul out there on a cherry picker with a high pressure hose defrosting the wings!!!

Anyway back on Bali and life is god.

Just heard of a new service in Melbourne : Little Eats.

Jemma, mother of one and expecting again, started a service looking for and reviewing kids friendly Cafes and Restaurant!!

I wish they had that when I had my kids in Sydney!!

Lots of other very useful information as well, check it out :

http://www.littleeats.com.au/

Well done Jemma.

Also, Nyepi falls on the 16th March this year so plan ahead.

Cheers, the team from Bali Baby

Galungan and Kuningan

Next week, 14th October, the island of Bali will be celebrating the Hindu celebration of Galungan.

Galungan is a Balinese holiday that occurs every 210 days and lasts for 10 days. Kuningan is the last day of the holiday. Galungan means “When the Dharma is winning.” During this holiday the Balinese Gods visit the Earth and leave on Kuningan.

Occurring once in every 210 days in the Pawukon (Balinese cycle of days), Galungan marks the beginning of the most important recurring religious ceremony that is celebrated by all Balinese. During the Galungan period the deified ancestors of the family descend to their former homes. They must be suitably entertained and welcomed, and prayers and offerings must be made for them.

The team from Bali Baby equipment hire wishes the Hindu community a Selamat Hari Galungan dan Kuningan!!

Earth quake and Tsunami in Indonesia

The team from Bali Baby wishes to express their deepest sympathy for the victims and all effected by the earth quake in West Sumatra and the Tsunami in Samoa.

So when you see guys with cardboard boxes collecting money at the “Circle of Confusion” or any other spot, give generously.

Or maybe drop spare blankets or clothes at your local Banyar.

This could happen to any of us, anywhere.

The perfect gift for mum

Check out the new addition to our retail page:

So all of our prams and strollers at Bali Baby Equipment Hire  come with a plastic cover if requested.

Galungan and Kuningan

The team form Bali Baby Equiment Hire wishes the Balinese community:

Selamat Hari Raya Galungan dan Kuningan.

Nyepi Day on Bali

Nyepi is perhaps the most unique of all festivals celebrated in Bali, the whole island comes to a standstill on this particular day. Visitors to Bali at this time of the year definitely need to be aware of the day of Nyepi, as they will not be able to go anywhere on this day, but rather spend time relaxing around their place of accommodation.

The most interesting part of Nyepi, the day of silence, when Balinese and alike reflect on the past year, for visitors is the visual spectacles of Ogoh-Ogoh (monsters) created by many of the villages throughout Bali to be used as a part of a huge island-wide exorcism on the eve of Nyepi. The youth of the various village banjar (local council areas) take great delight in competing with the neighbouring villages to create the most gruesome and terrifying-looking ogoh-ogoh in the month preceding Nyepi.

Unfortunately this year Denpasar Officials have  banned the parade of these Ogoh Ogoh in fear of rivaling villages starting fights because of the close proximity of local legislative elections with Nyepi celebrations.

Such a shame for the different Banyars which take great pride in creating the scariest Ogoh Ogoh and for the kids, who carry their own version of the beasts!!

Oh well we just have to wait until next year to see those colorful scary creations again parading through the streets of Bali.

Selamat Hari Nyepi
